La Nuova Provincia

La Nuova Provincia is the newspaper of Asti and its province. The first issue came out on 27 September 1953, with Pietro Perrone as its first editor[1]. For about thirty years, from 1991 to 2021, the paper had two weekly issues, on Tuesdays and Fridays; since February 2021 it has returned to a single weekly edition[1]. Its offices are on via Monsignor Rossi in Asti[1].

The website lanuovaprovincia.it runs alongside the print edition as an online daily: its presence online dates back to the early 2000s, and the current portal was launched in 2012 and renewed in 2021[1]. In 2023 the newsroom counted six journalists besides editor Fulvio Lavina and about ten contributors across the province's towns; the paper covers local news, sport including youth and amateur levels, culture and the surrounding areas in its "Terre nostre" section, with live coverage on the website and social media[2].

The editorial team has pointed to the scarcity of newsstands in small towns in the Asti area — more than forty of the province's 117 municipalities have none — and the need to grow digital subscriptions as challenges facing the paper[2]. For the Asti area, the website is one of the main channels for daily local news. In the Torino Top 100 ranking for September 2026, the site ranks among the 5,000 most visited sites in Italy according to Google's Chrome UX Report.
