Italy-South Africa rugby at the Nations Championship debut

On 7 November 2026 the Allianz Stadium in Turin will host the rugby match between the Italian national team and reigning world champions South Africa, the first home fixture of the Nations Championship, the new competition that brings together twelve of the world's best national teams in regular fixtures during the summer and autumn international windows.13 It will be the third international rugby test match hosted by the Turin venue in fifteen years.1

For Gonzalo Quesada's Azzurri, back from a summer tour of Japan, New Zealand and Australia, it will be the season opener ahead of matches against Argentina in Genoa (14 November) and Fiji in Udine (21 November), on the way to the Twickenham finals of 27-29 November that will close the competition's first edition.2 It will be the fourth meeting between Italy and South Africa in the last four years, in a rivalry that began in 1995 at the Olimpico in Rome, which saw the Azzurri beat the Springboks in 2016 at the «Franchi» in Florence and face them again at the 2019 World Cup in Japan.2

The match was presented before the Juventus-Atalanta game at the Allianz Stadium by Turin's city councillor for Sport, Domenico Carretta, who spoke of "a unique emotion" and an "unbreakable" bond between Turin and rugby.1
