On 15 October 2026 a resident reports finding a large Indian rock python in a courtyard at via De Francisco 29, in Settimo Torinese, in the Turin metropolitan area.123

The reptile, which appeared to be in critical condition from marked emaciation, dehydration and exposure to the cold caused by low autumn temperatures, is rescued by a wildlife technician from the Centro Animali Non Convenzionali (Canc) of Grugliasco, as part of the "Salviamoli insieme... on the road" service dedicated to large or dangerous wild animals in difficulty.13

It is a 730-gram female, hospitalised at the university veterinary clinic under observation and given targeted treatment. According to the centre's veterinarians, it may belong to the Burmese python species, which can reach four to five metres in length and 50-80 kilograms as an adult.12

Keeping such a specimen is subject to specific regulations, and the competent authorities are checking whether this was an accidental escape from a domestic terrarium or a deliberate abandonment. The Canc is waiting for a possible owner to come forward; if the animal survives and, once the legal deadlines have passed, no one claims it, it will be put up for adoption.12
