Inauguration of the Redeveloped Spaces of the Bagni Pubblici di via Agliè
On 16 September 2026, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in Turin, in the Barriera di Milano district, to mark the inauguration of the redeveloped spaces of the Casa del Quartiere Bagni Pubblici di via Agliè 9. The facility, established in the 1950s as a social and community centre, still houses a public shower service today and remains a reference point for neighbourhood welfare, participation and the cultural life of the district.[1]
The ceremony
The ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Turin Stefano Lo Russo, the Councillor for Social Policies Jacopo Rosatelli, the director of the Bagni Pubblici di via Agliè Erika Mattarella, the president of Kairos Consorzio di Cooperative Sociali Daniele Caccherano, and the director of the City of Turin's Department of Social, Socio-Health and Housing Services Monica Lo Cascio.[1]
The redevelopment works
The works were carried out through the Social Case project, thanks to an investment of 468,000 euros in PNRR funds under Mission 5 of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, investment line 1.3.2 "Stazioni di posta", supplemented by 83,000 euros in co-financing from Kairos Consorzio di Cooperative Sociali. The works involved the complete redevelopment of the building, including bringing the premises up to code, improving accessibility, reorganising the interior spaces, building new sanitary facilities, upgrading the systems, and enhancing the shared and outdoor areas.[1]
Statements
Mayor Stefano Lo Russo stated that the decision to invest European funds in these spaces was made in the awareness that urban safety is also built through a culture of proximity, complementing law enforcement's territorial monitoring with a social dimension of safety made up of spaces for sociability. He also recalled that Barriera di Milano is a district in which the City is investing, citing the inauguration, two days earlier, of the redeveloped Pestalozzi school.[1]
The Councillor for Social Policies Jacopo Rosatelli stated that the project has given the city renewed spaces that strengthen its capacity to welcome and support the most vulnerable people, describing the Casa del Quartiere Bagni Pubblici di via Agliè as a historic reference point for Barriera di Milano, where the historic public baths coexist with a wide range of social, cultural and community activities.[1]
