Hunger strike for the Einaudi Campus
Date of the event:
The hunger strike for the Einaudi Campus is a protest launched in Turin at 23:59 on Sunday 1 November 2026 by Patrizia De Grazia, a law student and national treasurer of Radicali Italiani. The initiative calls for the reopening of the Luigi Einaudi Campus, occupied by around 200 people, and the return of the university spaces to the whole academic community [1][2].
The reasons
De Grazia set out her position in a message posted on social media, in which she states that the occupation prevents students and teachers opposed to it from accessing the Campus. According to her account, thousands of students have been forced to follow lessons online, while exams and graduation ceremonies have been postponed or cancelled [1][2]. "The Campus belongs to everyone. Not only to those who occupy it," the student wrote, placing on the university the responsibility for not having intervened to restore the situation [1].
The form of the protest
De Grazia described her choice as non-violent, saying she was aware of the physical and mental difficulty of a prolonged lack of food, but considered it necessary [1]. "Violence is not the language of democracy. I have chosen the only response I know: non-violence," she said [2]. The student announced that she would continue the hunger strike until the Campus is once again accessible to everyone: "Do the protesters want a permanent occupation? They will have it. But they will also have a permanent hunger strike" [1][2].
The demands
The protest calls on the university to restore the right to study and to teach, and to take responsibility for its own decisions regarding the management of the occupation [1]. De Grazia stated that she would not end the strike until the Campus returns "to the availability of everyone" [2].
