Franco Anselma
Franco Anselma, born in 1958, was the owner of a historic winery in Serralunga d'Alba, in the province of Cuneo, and was the son of Giacomo Anselma, known as "Giaculin". He died on 2 October 2026 in a workplace accident while driving a tractor among the rows of his own vineyard.
Activity
Anselma was a respected wine producer in the Langhe area, where he ran a family business in Serralunga d'Alba. The town's mayor, Sergio Moscone, described him as a central figure for the entire local community [1].
The accident of 2 October 2026
Around noon on 2 October 2026, Anselma was driving back up toward his winery with the tractor trailer loaded with freshly harvested grapes, in the Collaretto area, in the municipality of Serralunga d'Alba, when the farm vehicle overturned on the slope of a dirt road, crushing him [1][2]. Emergency medical personnel, the air ambulance and a team of firefighters from the Alba station responded to the scene, but resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful and medical staff could only confirm his death from the injuries sustained in the crushing [1][2].
Carabinieri and technicians from the Spresal workplace safety unit of the Asl Cn2 health authority also responded to the scene, tasked with determining the exact causes of the accident and verifying compliance with workplace safety regulations [1][2].
Context
Anselma's death was the third fatal incident involving farm vehicles in the Langhe in just a few months: on 6 July 2026, mayor Marco Francone had died in Levice, struck by his own vehicle in a hazelnut grove, while on 14 August 2026 in Diano d'Alba, Lucia Casavecchia died after a farm vehicle overturned [2].
Personal life
Anselma is survived by his wife and a son born in 2004 [2].
