Fossano

Fossano is a town in the province of Cuneo, in Piedmont. The municipal area has a railway station, a junction on the line connecting Fossano to Cuneo, along which in September 2026 a replacement bus service was activated, operated by the transport company Stat, due to works on the railway line scheduled from 19 to 27 September [2].

Incident at the railway station (September 2026)

In the afternoon of 27 September 2026, in front of the Fossano railway station, a fourteen-year-old girl of Moroccan origin, born in Italy, reported that she had been prevented from boarding a Trenitalia replacement bus bound for Cuneo, where she resides, despite holding a valid ticket. According to the young woman's account, the driver had told her «I only let Italians on, not foreigners», leaving her stranded [1][2].

The girl's older brother, 28, intervened after the incident, waiting for the next bus to pass and filming the confrontation with the driver. The latter rejected the accusation of racism, claiming he had been misunderstood and had not said that phrase, though he offered something of an apology [1][2].

Carabinieri, called by the girl's brother, intervened on the scene and suggested the family seek legal counsel. The report was taken up by the Cuneo office of the regional network against discrimination. Avs regional councillor Giulia Marro asked Trenitalia and the replacement service company to clarify what had happened and to take any consequent measures, should the facts be confirmed [1]. The accounts given by the girl and the driver about the incident remain at odds [2].
