First hosts of the to.it domain

The oldest available snapshots of the .to.it zone date back to 1996 and concern six names: comune.collegno.to.it, ipermobili.to.it, provincia.to.it, comune.settimo-torinese.to.it, geo.sti.to.it and zaniboni.to.it, the last of these a furniture shop registered alongside a province and two municipalities.1 In 1997 comune.to.it, conf-art.to.it, infocon.to.it, matrix.to.it, studenti.to.it and ncc.avogadro.itis.to.it are added.2 In 1998 private machines belonging to a single user also appear, linux.nuvoli.to.it and fox.nuvoli.to.it, named after the operating system and a fox, as well as the Avogadro technical institute (avogadro.itis.to.it) and sciclub.sestriere.to.it.3

ipermobili.to.it, zaniboni.to.it and matrix.to.it, three different fates

The domain ipermobili.to.it remains parked, with no content of its own, in all the surveys examined between 19 December 1996 and 18 October 1997. The domain zaniboni.to.it, online since 30 December 1996 as the site of the Ditta Zaniboni Vittorio, remains active at least until 6 December 1998, when it announces its participation in the EMO fair in Hannover and the Tekne fair in Verona. The domain matrix.to.it, first recorded on 7 April 1997, is the only one of the three still online in September 2026: it has become the site of Matrix S.p.A., a company from Ivrea founded in 1988, with a plant of over 5,000 square metres and about a hundred employees, specialising in injection systems for alternative fuels (LPG, methane, hydrogen).

Three of the very first .to.it addresses: from placeholder pages to corporate sites

Among the first addresses of the to.it domain recorded by the web archive are ipermobili.to.it, zaniboni.to.it and matrix.to.it, registered by the end of 1996 or the start of 1997. The domain ipermobili.to.it appears as a placeholder page from the very first snapshot of 19 December 1996 and remains so in later surveys, never showing content of its own. The domain zaniboni.to.it, first recorded on 30 December 1996 also as a placeholder page, hosts from 6 December 1998 the site of the Turin firm Zaniboni Vittorio, noting its participation in the EMO fair in Hannover and the Tekne fair in Verona. The domain matrix.to.it, first archived on 7 April 1997 as a placeholder page, becomes over the years the site of Matrix S.p.A. of Ivrea, active in the automotive, pneumatic and textile sectors: in the last survey, from 23 September 2026, the company presents itself as an operation with around a hundred employees and premises of over 5,000 square metres, founded in the late 1980s.

Ipermobili, Zaniboni and Matrix: three among the very first domains of the to.it zone

The domain ipermobili.to.it is among the very first in the zone to be recorded by the web archive, which finds it on 19 December 1996 with a simple homepage with no content beyond the name, still identical in the survey of 18 October 1997. More developed is zaniboni.to.it, the site of the firm Zaniboni Vittorio recorded from 30 December 1996: the last live copy, from 6 December 1998, lists the international fairs the company attends, from Hannover to Verona. The third, matrix.to.it, belongs to Matrix S.p.A. of Ivrea, an operation born in the late 1980s in information technology: the first survey, from 7 April 1997, already describes it as active in printing, fluidics and textiles, and in 2026 the site, still online, presents it as a supplier of gas injection systems for the automotive industry, based in Ivrea on over 5,000 square metres with about a hundred employees.

Three first to.it addresses: an empty page, a firm and a company still active

Among the first addresses registered under the to.it domain are not only Turin bodies: on 19 December 1996 ipermobili.to.it already appears recorded by the archive, but with only a page titled «IPERmobili - Home Page» and no content beyond that, remaining identical up to the last survey with text, from 18 October 1997. The domain matrix.to.it, recorded from 7 April 1997, belonged from the start to Matrix, a company based in Ivrea founded in 1988 and at the time active in printing, fluidics and textiles; the last available survey, from 23 September 2026, shows the company still online as Matrix S.p.A., with over 100 employees at a plant of over 5,000 square metres, active in the automotive, pneumatic and textile divisions.

Three more first hosts: IPERmobili, Ditta Zaniboni, Matrix

Among the first sites registered under to.it, the archive preserves ipermobili.to.it from 19 December 1996 and zaniboni.to.it, the homepage of the «Ditta Zaniboni Vittorio», from 30 December 1996; both drop out of the archive by 1998. The domain matrix.to.it, online since 7 April 1997 as the site of the Ivrea company Matrix (active in the printing, fluidics and textile divisions), is the longest-lived: the last snapshot, from 23 September 2026, still shows online the site of Matrix S.p.A., with its «Company» and «Business Divisions» pages.

The domain zaniboni.to.it is online since 30 December 1996 as the site of the Ditta Zaniboni Vittorio; in the last snapshot preserved by the archive, from 6 December 1998, the page lists the company's participation in the EMO fair in Hannover and the Tekne fair in Verona in 1997.

The domain matrix.to.it

The domain matrix.to.it is online since 7 April 1997 as the site of Matrix, a company from Ivrea active in several high-technology sectors; in the last snapshot preserved by the archive, from 23 September 2026, the site still presents the company, today with the Automotive, Pneumatic and Textile divisions.

Zaniboni and Matrix, two of the first .to.it sites

The site of one of the domain's first hosts, zaniboni.to.it (Ditta Zaniboni Vittorio), announces in the snapshot of 6 December 1998 its participation in two trade fairs in 1997: the EMO in Hannover, Germany, from 10 to 17 September (hall 6, stand G73), and the Tekne in Verona from 22 to 25 October (hall 8, stand B15).

Three among the first addresses of the to.it domain

ipermobili.to.it, among the very first addresses of the zone, is photographed by the Internet Archive from 19 December 1996 to 18 October 1997, always as a placeholder page not yet active.12 zaniboni.to.it, the site of the firm Zaniboni Vittorio, is documented from 30 December 1996 to 6 December 1998; in the last copy the company presents itself at international fairs in the sector, such as the EMO in Hannover and the Tekne in Verona.345 matrix.to.it, photographed as early as 7 April 1997 as a placeholder page,6 is among the very few of this first generation still online: in the copy of 23 September 2026 the site of Matrix S.p.A. — founded in Ivrea in 1988 — included pages devoted to the company, contacts and business divisions.78910

conf-art.to.it: from the Unione Artigiana to Confartigianato Torino

The domain conf-art.to.it, among the first registered in 1997, belonged to the Unione Artigiana di Torino e Provincia, based at via Cernaia 20 in Turin: the first snapshot, from 4 April 1997, lists its phone numbers and e-mail and a list of branch offices, from Chivasso to Pinerolo.[1] In the snapshot of 3 August 2002 the same address presents the association under the name «Confartigianato Torino».[2]
