The former Ilte plant is a disused industrial complex in Moncalieri, in Turin’s southern belt. The plant housed the Ilte printing works, historically known for printing telephone directories. The site is now at the centre of a redevelopment project that envisages building one of the largest data centres in Italy.[1]

The redevelopment project

A billion-euro investment is planned for the former, abandoned printing works, to build one of the country’s largest data-centre hubs. The project is expected to create around 400 jobs.[1]

The administration’s position

The mayor of Moncalieri, quoted only by his first name, Mauro, said the challenge of the operation is to reconcile the development of artificial intelligence with environmental protection.[1]
