Erminio Macario
Erminio Macario (Turin, 27 May 1902 – Turin, 26 March 1980) was a comic actor of variety theatre and film; raised in Porta Palazzo, he began his career in the amateur drama group of the Salesian oratory of Maria Ausiliatrice.[1]
Variety theatre
In 1924 he made his revue debut at the Teatro Romano in Turin, in the Galleria Subalpina, and in 1925 he joined Isa Bluette's company.[1] In 1929-1930 he performed in dialect with La Stabile at the Teatro Rossini, and in 1932-1933 he founded his own company based at the Teatro Maffei.[1] He also performed at the Teatro Alfieri.[2]
Film and theatre
His films include «Imputato, alzatevi!» (1938) and «Italia piccola» (1957), and in 1970 he staged «Le miserie di Monssù Travet».[1] He died in Turin while performing at the theatre on Via Santa Teresa that bore his name.[1]
Legacy
For the 120th anniversary of his birth, on 17 June 2022 the Teatro Gobetti dedicated a tribute to him, and on 26 October 2022 a postage stamp was issued, presented at the Museo del Cinema.[3][4] The former Teatro Macario on Via Santa Teresa reopened as an art space on 15 February 2024.[5]
