Cosmo

Cosmo is the stage name of Marco Jacopo Bianchi, a singer from Ivrea, in the Metropolitan City of Turin. His Instagram profile has 179,000 followers ^[1].

The dispute with La Stampa

On 25 October 2026, Cosmo posted an Instagram "story" addressing journalists of the Turin newspaper La Stampa with these words: "Poi vi lamentate se vi lanciano il letame in redazione" ("Then you complain if they throw manure into your newsroom") ^[1]. The message was accompanied by a screenshot of a newspaper article headlined "Sassi, bottiglie, idranti e lacrimogeni. A Torino la guerriglia degli incappucciati" ("Stones, bottles, water cannon and tear gas. In Turin, the hooded rioters' guerrilla warfare"), about the clashes that took place in Turin on 24 October 2026 during a demonstration ^[1]. Cosmo added: "La vostra narrazione fa vomitare, siete parte del problema" ("Your narrative makes me sick, you are part of the problem") ^[1]. The reference to "manure" recalls the attack carried out by some pro-Palestinian demonstrators on La Stampa's newsroom in November 2025 ^[1].

The message was posted a few days after the release of a song by the singer, which Cosmo himself said he had brought forward from the original schedule following the clashes and looting that took place during the mid-October 2026 demonstrations, particularly in Milan ^[1]. The song's lyrics include the lines: "Ma il futuro è uno shock / Gucci, Vuitton, Lamborghini, Cartier / Belle vetrine le rompono tutte / Tutti sti sogni rubati si incendiano / Bruciano le camionette" ("But the future is a shock / Gucci, Vuitton, Lamborghini, Cartier / They smash all the nice shop windows / All these stolen dreams go up in flames / The police vans burn") ^[1].

The newsroom committee's response

On 26 October 2026, La Stampa's newsroom committee issued a statement, without naming Cosmo directly, expressing "deep concern over the messages circulating on social media that incite hatred" against the journalists who had reported on the 24 October demonstrations ^[1]. The statement describes as "wholly unacceptable" messages hoping for a repeat of the attack on the newsroom that had taken place less than a year earlier, and flags as more serious those accompanied by the publication of the names of the journalists involved, with possible risks to their safety ^[1].
