Copper theft in via Sospello and detention of two cousins

The detention of two cousins aged 18 and 21 on charges of handling stolen goods followed a traffic stop carried out by carabinieri from the Oltre Dora operational unit at the junction between via Fiesole and strada Altessano, in Turin. In the back of the van the two young men — already known to police — were travelling in, officers found a 350-metre reel of copper cable and several pairs of shears [1][2].

The stop and the discovery

The white van stopped by the carabinieri was registered to a third person, not to the two young men on board. Checks carried out by the officers traced the transported material to a theft that had taken place the previous night at a social-housing building site in via Sospello, in Turin [1][2].

Where the stolen goods came from

Investigations established that the copper reel and the shears belonged to a company based in Montevarchi, in the province of Arezzo, and had been taken from the site the night before the stop [1][2].

The detention and its validation

The two cousins were detained as suspects in the crime of handling stolen goods, a measure later validated by the judge. They were placed under the precautionary measures of a residence requirement in Turin and an obligation to report to the judicial police [1][2].
