Cirio's proposal on the occupation of the Einaudi Campus
Date of the event:
On 3 November 2026 the rector of the University of Turin, Cristina Prandi, responds cautiously to the proposal of Piedmont Region president Alberto Cirio to host «500 young people» in the classrooms of the Piedmont Region skyscraper, in order to allow lectures to continue after being made impossible by the ongoing occupation of the Luigi Einaudi Campus [1].
The Region's proposal
Cirio proposes making space in the Piedmont Region's skyscraper available to the University to accommodate up to 500 students, in an attempt to ensure the continuity of teaching activities disrupted by the occupation of the Luigi Einaudi Campus [1].
The rector's response
In a statement issued by the University of Turin in the afternoon of 3 November, Cristina Prandi thanks Cirio and the Piedmont Region «for the willingness shown towards the University of Turin and its student community», calling the gesture «a sign of attention and institutional cooperation» at a moment described as «particularly difficult» for the university [1]. The rector specifies that the proposal will be assessed «carefully, checking together with the relevant offices the organisational and teaching conditions for a possible use of the spaces made available» [1].
Prandi stresses that the University is already making «a significant effort to ensure the continuity of activities», despite the difficulties caused by the occupation of the Luigi Einaudi Campus, and reiterates that the priority remains «the return to full accessibility of the Campus and the regular resumption of in-person activities, in a building that belongs to the whole university community» [1]. The rector concludes by again thanking the Region for its «concrete display of closeness and attention towards our University», leaving the final decision still to be made [1].
