Waiting lists in Piedmont's health service
Waiting lists in Piedmont's health service indicate how long patients wait for health services such as first visits and diagnostic tests across the territory of the Piedmont Region, whose capital is Turin. The data is collected periodically by the National Agency for Regional Health Services (Agenas) through a national bulletin that compares Italy's regions on compliance with the guaranteed waiting times set for bookings.
The October 2026 bulletin
On 22 October 2026 the Piedmont Region's health councillor (assessore), Federico Riboldi, released the figures of the new Agenas Bulletin, updated to 30 September 2026, according to which the share of first visits carried out within the guaranteed time in Piedmont rose to 72.2%, against 69.2% recorded in the same period of 2025: an increase of three percentage points, above the national average rise of 1.7 points [1][2]. Diagnostic tests remain above the 80% threshold, rising from 82.4% to 82.7% [1][2].
Priority classes
Riboldi noted that, in Piedmont, first visits classified in priority class P, to be scheduled within 120 days, account for 8.8% of the total, against a national average of 34.9%, stressing that this difference in how clinical priorities are distributed affects how the results should be read when comparing different regions [1][2]. The Agenas Bulletin itself notes that differences in how services are classified affect the percentages of compliance with guaranteed waiting times [1].
Patient care pathways
The councillor also drew attention to some partial figures on patient care pathways ("presa in carico"), circulated separately from the official bulletin, describing them as unofficial and not comparable between regions because of differing methods of data collection. Riboldi specified that Piedmont distinguishes between "first access" and "other access", the latter relevant to the care of chronic patients: on this indicator Piedmont would rank first among Italy's regions, with 426.1 care pathways per thousand inhabitants, while on first access it would rank among the last, with 269.1 per thousand inhabitants [1][2].
