UNITA – Universitas Montium
UNITA – Universitas Montium is a European University Alliance funded by the European Commission under the European Universities initiative of the Erasmus+ programme. The University of Turin is its coordinating university, the only one in Italy to lead an alliance of this kind [1][2].
History and structure
UNITA was founded in 2020 and, since November 2023, has brought together twelve European universities in seven countries, backed by a shared legal structure called UNITA GEIE [2]. The alliance aims to transform teaching, research and the relationship between universities and their local communities, building a student-centred educational offer open to a European and transnational dimension [2]. Training for technical and administrative staff is part of this effort, aimed at creating opportunities for collaboration among those who keep the universities' day-to-day operations running [2].
The 2026 Vision Staff Week
From 2 to 6 November 2026 the University of Turin hosts the Vision Staff Week, five days of workshops, seminars and professional exchanges on artificial intelligence, virtual reality and 3D modelling, aimed at the technical and administrative staff of UNITA's partner universities [1][2]. The initiative, whose acronym VISION stands for VIrtual reality and AI for Staff InnovatiON, is based mainly at Palazzo Nuovo [2]. Lecturers, researchers and technical staff share knowledge and experience spanning immersive technologies, education sciences, philosophy, languages and law [1][2].
In the workshops, participants explore three-dimensional and virtual environments and experiment with interacting with artificial intelligence, while the seminars examine AI ethics, its regulation and the institutional strategies for introducing it into universities' processes and services; space is also devoted to multilingual communication and mutual intercomprehension [1][2]. The closing day, Friday 6 November, takes place at the Cavallerizza Reale and is devoted to the University of Turin's Teaching and Learning Center (TLC), established in 2022 to develop teaching skills within its Departments and bring together the University's innovation experiences [2]. The TLC extends its work to the national networks of Teaching and Learning Centers and to international cooperation within UNITA [2].
