The second event in the film season dedicated to Charlie Chaplin, organised at the Sala Art Ensemble in Turin, at via Petitti 24, is scheduled for Saturday 31 October 2026 at 6pm, with a screening of the film «Modern Times» (Tempi moderni) [1].

The season

The initiative continues the series of screenings dedicated to the films of Charlie Chaplin, with critical introductions by Professor Bruna Ramello. The first event had been dedicated to the 1921 film «The Kid» (Il monello) [1]. After «Modern Times», the season will have a third event with a screening of «The Great Dictator» (Il grande dittatore) [1].

The film being screened

«Modern Times», released ninety years before the Turin screening, is presented as a satire on the organisation of industrial labour and the society of machines. In the film Chaplin plays a worker struggling with the Taylorist assembly line, alongside Paulette Goddard as a young homeless woman. While including a musical score and some sound effects, the director chose not to use spoken dialogue, keeping to the language of silent pantomime [1].
