Michele Lessona Prize
On 13 November 2026, at 6.30pm, the museum hosts the official presentation of the second edition of the Michele Lessona science communication prize, a national competition for lower and upper secondary schools, launched to bring new generations closer to science and raise their awareness of major environmental challenges.[1][2] The 2026/2027 edition of the prize is dedicated to the theme of water, aquatic ecosystems and the effects of climate change on biodiversity, titled "Correnti di futuro: scorrere, connettere, proteggere. Oceani, fiumi e canali; come il cambiamento climatico influisce sulla biodiversità acquatica" ("Currents of the future: flowing, connecting, protecting. Oceans, rivers and canals; how climate change affects aquatic biodiversity").[1][2] Participating classes can present these themes through a podcast or a video, with entries due by 22 January and submissions by 16 April 2027.[1][2]
As part of the presentation, the museum hosts a lecture by marine biologist and science communicator Mariasole Bianco, titled "Pianeta Oceano: nel profondo siamo mare" ("Planet Ocean: deep down we are sea"), dedicated to the role of the oceans for life on Earth, their biodiversity and the importance of protecting their ecosystems.[1][2] The evening is free to attend, by booking.[1][2] The initiative marks the start of a project dedicated to science communication and to the memory of Michele Lessona, a scientist born in Venaria Reale in 1823 and who died in Turin.[1][2]
