On 3 November 2026 Flavio Cobolli achieves mathematical qualification for the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin, the season-ending tournament that brings together the top eight players of the ATP Race and is played at the Inalpi Arena from 15 to 22 November 2026. The Roman player's berth is secured not on court but at a distance: thanks to the defeat of the Spaniard Rafael Jodar, beaten in two sets by the Norwegian Casper Ruud in the first round of the Paris Masters 1000 [1][2].

The decisive defeat

The match between Jodar and Ruud, played on Tuesday 3 November, ends 6-3, 6-4 in favour of the Norwegian. The result mathematically eliminates Jodar's remaining chances of overtaking Cobolli in the Race, making the Italian's qualification certain [2].

Cobolli had been unable to fight directly for his own chances at the Paris Masters 1000, which he withdrew from because of a left thigh injury sustained during the Vienna tournament, where he had retired from the Italian derby against Matteo Berrettini [2].

First qualification of his career

For the 24-year-old from Rome, this is his first qualification for the ATP Finals. Cobolli joins the group of qualifiers Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Ben Shelton and Daniil Medvedev, already certain of their place in Turin, while three spots remain to be assigned, with the Paris Masters 1000 set to play a decisive role in shaping the final line-up [1][2].

Absent from the tournament is the defending champion Jannik Sinner, out with a knee injury that has kept him off the court since his Wimbledon win in July 2026. Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori have also already qualified for the Finals' doubles tournament [1][2].
