Presidio Sanitario San Camillo
h-sancamillo.to.it is the website of the Presidio Sanitario San Camillo, a hospital specialising in functional recovery and rehabilitation, part of the National Health Service network of the Piedmont Region, at strada Santa Margherita 136 in Turin: the first archived snapshot, from April 2001, presented it with 100 beds, a day hospital and physiokinesitherapy outpatient clinics.1
The facility, also known as Villa Lellia, stands on the first slopes of the Turin hills, with a view of the Alpine chain and the hill of Superga.2
In November 2019 the site announced the arrival of A.L.B.A., described as the first self-driving wheelchair for moving patients, trialled in collaboration with Italian and international companies.3
The facility, the Camillians and new rehabilitation technologies
The Presidio, founded and run by the Camillian religious order, is named after St Camillus de Lellis (1550-1614), founder of the Order of the Ministers of the Infirm Clerics Regular: the facility, also known as Villa Lellia, stands on the first slopes of the Turin hills, two minutes from piazza Vittorio Veneto, with a view of the Alpine chain from Monviso to Monte Rosa and of the hill of Superga.1
On 5 November 2019 the Presidio presented A.L.B.A., the first self-driving wheelchair for moving patients within a hospital, developed through a partnership between international and Italian companies and trialled on the facility's patients; general director Marco Salza described the introduction of the wheelchair as "a challenge to understand what opportunities it offers us".2
Among the Presidio's projects is also TUTTI (Turin to Tbilisi), on the partnership between San Camillo and the Camillian mission in Georgia.3
