Opening of R-Women in Savigliano
Date of the event:
On 6 November 2026, at 5pm, the cultural event «R-Women – Being a woman in a complex world» opened in Savigliano at Palazzo Muratori Cravetta. The initiative is promoted by the City of Savigliano, Savigliano's Equal Opportunities Board (Consulta per le Pari Opportunità) and the cultural association Sapori Reclusi. [1][2]
The photo exhibition
At the heart of the event is the photo exhibition «R-Women Iran» and «R-Women Afghanistan», held at Palazzo Muratori Cravetta from 6 to 26 November 2026. The exhibition brings together reportage by international, Iranian, Afghan and European photographers documenting daily life for women in the two countries, the restrictions imposed on them, the loss of civil rights, and stories of resistance and dignity. [1][2]
Talks and screenings
Over the three weeks the event is open, talks and testimonies for the public are planned. On 10 November 2026, at 9pm, at Palazzo Taffini, Manoocher Deghati, the Iranian-French photojournalist who won the World Press Photo award in 1983, took part, with free admission until seats ran out. The organisers have announced further talks with two activists for Iranian and Afghan women's rights living in Italy. [1][2] Screenings of films and documentaries on the condition of women in Iran and Afghanistan are also planned, held in collaboration with the Cinema Aurora in Savigliano. [1][2]
Schools and food
The event includes sessions for secondary-school students, to explore themes of human rights, individual freedom, gender equality and dialogue between cultures. [1][2] Some restaurants in the city are taking part with evenings devoted to Middle Eastern cuisine or by adding typical dishes to their weekend menus, aiming to foster understanding and dialogue between different cultures through food.
