Microtecnica
Microtecnica is a Turin-based company specializing in precision mechanics and aerospace systems, founded in 1929 by Daniele Agostino De Rossi; it has plants in Turin, Luserna San Giovanni and Brugherio.[1][2]
Origins
During the Second World War it operated as an auxiliary factory, producing compasses, autopilots for aircraft, guidance systems for torpedoes and micrometers; its workforce dropped from three thousand in 1940 to 1,200 in 1945.[1] The plant in piazza Arturo Graf and the one on via Madama Cristina, in San Salvario, were heavily hit by bombing raids.[3][4] After the war the company also specialized in equipment for the film industry.[1]
American ownership
In 1983 it was bought by Hamilton Standard, part of the United Technologies group; in 2001 it absorbed Magnaghi of Brugherio, and later passed to Goodrich, to UTC, and in 2018 to Collins Aerospace.[1][5] In 2019 it celebrated its ninetieth anniversary with about 550 employees.[2]
The Safran affair
At the end of 2023 the Italian government used golden power rules to block the sale of the company to the French firm Safran, a deal worth 1.8 billion euros; in July 2024 it withdrew the veto and the three plants passed to Safran.[5][6][7] In 2025 the company oversaw the redevelopment of piazza Graf, adding new flower beds and a public car park.[8]
