Metropolitan City visit to the Santorre di Santarosa Institute
News of
Caterina Greco, the Metropolitan City of Turin (Città metropolitana di Torino) councillor responsible for education, visited the Santorre di Santarosa Institute in Turin, meeting headteacher Paolo Ficara, several students and the chair of the school council. The meeting addressed the needs of the school community, with particular attention to the accessibility of the buildings and the removal of architectural barriers [1].
Planned works
The Metropolitan City of Turin has already allocated over €140,000 for building an access ramp for people with disabilities at the institute's annexe. Work is due to start shortly [1]. For the main building, a project is also planned to redevelop the inner courtyard, to make it easier for minibuses carrying students with disabilities to access and manoeuvre [1].
Inspection of the corso Peschiera building
During the visit, councillor Greco inspected the historic building on corso Peschiera, where extraordinary maintenance work is under way to bring it up to regulatory, seismic and energy-efficiency standards, funded by the Metropolitan City of Turin with around €2.5 million from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) [1]. A further €500,000 of the authority's own funds will go towards replacing the heating system and repainting every room in the school [1].
The inspection gave an opportunity to review the work already completed and, together with the school's management and students, to discuss the institute's further needs, with the aim of improving the safety, accessibility and functionality of the school spaces [1].
