Marco Liccione, a Turin truck driver born in 1989, filed a defamation complaint against infectious disease specialist Matteo Bassetti in the first days of November 2026. The complaint was lodged with the public prosecutor's office (Procura) of Genoa, the city where the doctor lives, with the assistance of Turin lawyer Gilberto Comotto [1][2].

The content of the complaint

In the document, Liccione describes himself as a «person known for his political and social commitment», publicly associated with the Futuro Nazionale movement, the party founded by Roberto Vannacci [1]. The movement's representatives in Turin, however, have denied that Liccione is one of their members [1]. The complaint concerns a post Bassetti published on social media on 21 October 2026 (22 October according to another source), in which the infectious disease specialist described Liccione as having a «curriculum of permanent opposition» and used other remarks the truck driver considered damaging to his reputation [1][2]. The complaint was also extended to a newspaper that allegedly republished the content of the post without, according to the complainant, adequate critical scrutiny [2].

Bassetti's post

In the post, Bassetti recalled the episodes that had brought Liccione into the news, from his confrontation in Sauze d'Oulx when the doctor was awarded honorary citizenship, to the anti-cost-of-living protest of 17 October 2026 in Turin. The infectious disease specialist also criticised Liccione's shift from No Vax and No Green Pass positions to joining Futuro Nazionale, and addressed remarks to Vannacci too about the movement's membership [1].

Context: the 17 October protest

Liccione is among the organisers of the anti-cost-of-living protest of 17 October 2026 in Turin, which turned into clashes including an assault on the Feltrinelli bookshop at Torino Porta Nuova station. Liccione himself said he was attacked by a group of people during the most heated moments of the march [1][2]. He had already become known during the pandemic, when he took part in No Vax protests, fell ill with Covid-19, and was also placed under investigation during that period [1].
