Installation «Fuori Posto» in Tortona
Date of the event:
«Fuori Posto» is a temporary installation set up on 25 October 2026 in piazza Duomo in Tortona, in the Province of Alessandria, curated by Gestione Ambiente, a company of the Acos group. The work, made up of a sofa, a lamp, a coffee table and an old television set up outdoors in the city's central square, aims to raise awareness against the illegal dumping of bulky waste and electrical and electronic equipment [1].
The installation
In the square, alongside the furniture, two young women sat having coffee as if in a living room at home. The installation remained on view for a single day [1].
The message
Francesca Danieli, head of communications at Gestione Ambiente, explained that the idea behind the initiative is «simple and deliberately disconcerting»: if the sight of a sofa in the middle of a square causes discomfort, the same discomfort should be caused by the sight of a sofa dumped in front of a bin, in a ditch or on the side of a road. For one day, what is usually hidden on the outskirts was brought into the city centre [1]. The installation's message, given in two languages, stresses that dumping bulky waste «is not only prohibited and punishable, but above all pointless» [1].
Alternative services
Gestione Ambiente reminded residents of the existence of two free alternatives to dumping: home collection by appointment and the collection centre in via Postumia, open every day [1].
