The Edoardo Amaldi Lyceum is an upper secondary school (liceo) based in Novi Ligure, in the Province of Alessandria. In October 2026 it was at the centre of a national controversy over the use of the school's electronic register to spread a notice about a public demonstration.

The electronic register affair

In early October 2026, a notice reportedly appeared on the school's online electronic register inviting students to take part in a march called "Shroud of Gaza" (Sudario di Gaza), planned for Saturday 10 October 2026. The initiative involved displaying a sheet bearing the names of 18,457 Palestinian minors whom the demonstration's organisers say were killed in the Gaza Strip [1][2].

The ministerial inspection

Following the affair, Piedmont's Regional School Office ordered an inspection of the school. Italy's Ministry of Education and Merit explained that the inquiry was meant to establish the facts and check whether an institutional tool of the school had been improperly used to summon students to demonstrations, adding that, if confirmed, this would amount to a serious breach of professional ethics [1][2].

Education and Merit Minister Giuseppe Valditara commented on the affair, stating that "the constitutional school is the one that teaches critical thinking and pluralism, and that rejects all forms of indoctrination," and that "the practice of indoctrinating students belongs only to totalitarian regimes" [1][2].
