District 5 Motion for Honorary Citizenship for Kimi Antonelli

On 4 November 2026, Turin's District 5 (Circoscrizione 5), one of the city's administrative decentralisation bodies, files and registers a motion inviting the City of Turin to grant honorary citizenship to Formula 1 driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli. The initiative aims to link this symbolic recognition to a project to revive Turin's automotive identity.[1]

The motion's content

The initiative is signed by the Forza Italia–UDC council group of District 5 and was put forward by the district's deputy chair, Antonio Cuzzilla, together with councillors Luigi Borelli and Simona Borelli. The text formally invites the mayor and the city administration to consider starting the procedure to grant honorary citizenship to Antonelli, and, in parallel, to organise an official initiative dedicated to reviving the city's automotive identity.[1]

Stated aims

According to its sponsors, the aim is not just to celebrate a talent of Italian motorsport, but to bring Turin back to the centre of the national and international stage as the capital of the automobile, showcasing the industrial and technological heritage linked to Fiat, component manufacturers, design centres and the city's universities. The Forza Italia–UDC group stresses the need to showcase industrial expertise, research and innovation in the automotive sector.[1]

The motion cites as a model the bond built between Turin and Jannik Sinner through the Nitto ATP Finals, proposing to replicate a similar mechanism in motorsport around Antonelli's name, with the idea of involving automotive companies, universities, research centres, institutions and training bodies in initiatives to promote investment, innovation and employment.[1]
