The fire of 7 August 2026
On 7 August 2026 a fire broke out in the car park in front of the Carabinieri station in Cigliano, completely destroying two cars belonging to two serving officers [1].
Subsequent findings, made public on 26 October 2026, established that the fire was deliberately set. Chemical and physical analyses carried out on the wreckage of the vehicles and on the asphalt found traces of accelerants and specific hydrocarbon markers, consistent with the hypothesis of arson [1].
At the time these findings were made public, the review of security camera footage gathered shortly after the event was still under way. The Carabinieri of Vercelli appealed to residents and passers-by in the municipality to come forward with any information useful to the investigation [1].
