Bobbio Pellice
Bobbio Pellice is a municipality in the Val Pellice, in the Metropolitan City of Turin. Its territory is home to the Rifugio Barbara Lowrie, a reference point for rock climbers and boulderers, which has become internationally known for Exodia, considered one of the hardest boulder problems in the world.[1]
The Exodia boulder
Near the Rifugio Barbara Lowrie, in the territory of Bobbio Pellice, lies the Exodia boulder, first climbed by Abruzzo climber Elias Iagnemma shortly before November 2025. At the time, Iagnemma graded it 9A+, describing it as a possible contender for hardest boulder in the world.[1]
Adam Ondra's repeat ascent
In the days before 18 October 2026, Czech champion Adam Ondra, a professional climber born in 1993 and considered among the strongest in the history of sport climbing, travelled to the Val Pellice to repeat Exodia. On his social media channels, Ondra described the experience as "exciting and thrilling", calling the boulder "this masterpiece by Elias Iagnemma".[1]
Ondra proposed a slightly lower grade than the original one, 9A (V17) instead of 9A+, comparing Exodia's difficulty to that of Soudain Seul, a boulder in the Fontainebleau forest, Alphane, in Chironico, Switzerland, and Monte Fato, in the Maltatal valley in Austria. The Czech climber added that he does not believe the boulder will be forgotten in the future.[1]
