Autovip San Mauro Protest at City Council

The Autovip San Mauro protest at City Council is the initiative in which, on 28 September 2026, about two hundred people including athletes, coaches, officials and parents of the Autovip San Mauro sports club filled the council chamber of the City of San Mauro Torinese before the start of the session, to call for the team's return to its own playing field.

Reasons for the protest

Since the start of summer the team has been without a venue for training and matches, due to work to redo the synthetic turf of the municipal football pitch, an intervention costing almost 700,000 euros decided by the administration led by Mayor Giulia Guazzora. The handover of the playing field had been promised for 21 September, but did not take place due to delays in the supply of the necessary materials [2].

Before the start of the council session, the sports group organized an awareness initiative, completely filling the seating area of the council chamber. On Autovip's social media channels, the club explained that it wanted to highlight to all of San Mauro's administrators the importance of the team's return to its own home ground [2].

The political context of the session

The same council session saw the official entry into the city executive of Germana Lionello (PD), with responsibility for Welfare, Environment, Peace and Cooperation, Twinning, Equal Opportunities and Rights, and of Antonello Camillo, appointed councillor for Building and Urban Planning. During the same evening, councillor Diego Innocenti of the civic list left the majority to join the opposition; in the subsequent vote on the Single Planning Document, Mayor Guazzora's governing coalition was defeated, with seven votes in favor and eight against [2].

Roads and works in the area

In the days surrounding the protest, the territory of San Mauro Torinese was also affected by other infrastructure works: Provincial Road 590 of Val Cerrina was partially closed to traffic on Tuesday 29 September, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., between kilometer 3+400 and kilometer 4+300, for inspections of the underpass present along that stretch. The closure of a bridge for works was also ordered from 28 September to 30 October, with a 24-hour traffic stop and a mandatory detour along Via Martiri della Libertà [1].
