On 18 September 2026, Australia's ambassador to Italy, Julianne Cowley, met Piedmont's industrial system in Turin at an event organized by Confindustria Piemonte, in the context of the anticipated free trade agreement between Australia and the European Union.12 In 2025, trade between Piedmont and Australia reached a combined total of €375 million, with a surplus of around €230 million for Piedmont; the region ranks fourth in Italy by value of exports to the country, driven by food, beverages and tobacco.12
"The free trade agreement means lower costs, more certainty, stronger protection for Italian excellence," said ambassador Cowley, also highlighting the Security and Defence Partnership signed between Australia and the EU and Australia's participation in Horizon Europe.12
