Andrea Muratore
Andrea Muratore is the director of General Surgery at the Agnelli Hospital in Pinerolo, in the Province of Turin. Under his direction, the facility has become, within the National Health Service, the only centre in Piedmont to treat abdominal diastasis with the minimally invasive TESAR technique (Totally Endoscopic Sublay Anterior Repair)[1][2].
Clinical activity
Abdominal diastasis is a condition characterised by the separation of the rectus abdominis muscles, common especially among women after one or more pregnancies, which can cause chronic back pain, postural alterations and functional difficulties. Muratore has stressed that the problem is often underestimated and considered purely cosmetic, whereas it may require specialist treatment[1].
According to Muratore, the TESAR technique makes it possible to correct diastasis and any associated hernias through an endoscopic approach, reducing the impact of the operation and promoting a faster post-operative recovery, with positive results both functionally and in terms of shape and appearance[1][2].
Recognition and training
The experience of the team led by Muratore was recognised at the Wall Board Academy, a training programme dedicated to reconstructive surgery of the abdominal wall held in Milan in September 2026: there, the Pinerolo Hospital was named the second centre in Italy for TESAR case volume, after the Lombardy facility led by Federico Fiori, the technique's creator[1][2].
On 8 and 9 October 2026 the facility directed by Muratore hosted the course "Advanced Wall Surgery. Addome complesso e diastasi in primo piano" ("Complex abdomen and diastasis in focus"), aimed at experienced surgeons and structured over one theoretical day and one dedicated to live surgery[1][2].
