Alpignano
Alpignano is a municipality (comune) in the Lower Val di Susa, in the metropolitan area of Turin. The municipality has a public library, located at via Matteotti 2, and has set up a councillor's office for the Resistance, the Constitution and Anti-fascism [2].
The festival «C'era una svolta»
From 19 September to 20 November 2026 the municipality of Alpignano hosts the festival «C'era una svolta» (There was a turning point), described by its organisers as a «widespread and pop» series of events devised to tell the story of humanity's crucial turning points [2]. As part of the festival, on Saturday 24 October at 4pm the «Scala delle Partigiane» (Stairway of the Partisan Women) is due to be inaugurated, described as the first staircase in Italy dedicated to women partisans and presented as the first act of the municipality's new councillor's office for the Resistance, the Constitution and Anti-fascism [1][2]. The work is located at the bottom of via Cervino, described as a thoroughfare used in the past by partisans, and consists of 14 stone steps bearing 15 women's names, since one step carries the names of two sisters together [2]. The names were chosen by a working group made up of the historian and essayist Marcella Filippa, director of the Vera Nocentini Cultural Association, the writer and journalist Bruna Bertolo, Maria Grazia Alemanno, deputy chair of the Turin branch of FNISM's Frida Malan section, and Mariella Di Vietro, of the inter-municipal section of ANPI in Alpignano [2].
The exhibition «Donne in libertà»
From Thursday 15 to Friday 30 October 2026 the Alpignano public library sets up the bibliographic exhibition «Donne in libertà» (Women in Freedom), dedicated to the women of the Resistance and curated by Civil Service volunteers [1][2]. The books, dedicated to the theme in various ways, are displayed on a stand at the library entrance and are available for loan; the selection includes stories and novels, essays and local history, first-hand accounts, graphic novels, comics and reading for children and teenagers [1][2]. The council's councillor for Culture and the Library, Chiara Priante, described the initiative as «a precious opportunity to rediscover the voices of the women who actively took part in the Resistance and made a fundamental contribution to building democracy, starting with the winning of the right to vote», adding that it is «a tool designed to learn about the past, preserve memory and draw inspiration from the stories of extraordinary women who made history» [1][2].
