Airasca

Airasca is a comune in the metropolitan city of Turin, in Piedmont. Its territory hosts the SKF Logistics Italy hub, considered strategic for the industrial business of the SKF group and one of the four international European warehouses forming the backbone of the Swedish company's European and global logistics network.[1][2]

The SKF logistics hub

The Airasca warehouse was built in 1975 and opened the following year. Since its opening it has represented a European excellence, equipped with a fully automatic conveyor system.[1][2] Over half a century the facility has gradually evolved to adapt to new technologies linked to logistics processes, maintaining a high level of automation.[1][2] Currently more than 80% of orders are handled with the Goods to Person system, a method involving the automated movement of stored products to the fixed station of the operator responsible for picking.[1]

The site covers an area of more than 35,000 square metres and employs 129 people, with a strong female component.[1][2] SKF Logistics Italy manages components and finished products from SKF's production plants in Italy, namely Cassino, Massa, Villar Perosa and Airasca itself, and shipments to end customers and to other SKF or customer warehouses in Europe and around the world, with volumes of around 40,000 orders a month.[1][2]

The hub's 50th anniversary

On Monday 5 October 2026 the logistics hub celebrated 50 years of activity with a day dedicated to the site's 129 employees, also organized to thank them for their commitment during the transition linked to the recent separation of the industrial and automotive businesses undertaken by the company.[1][2] The event was attended by SKF Italy's managing director and president Sandro Chervatin, HR Director Paolo Ferrero Varsino, and managers who came from Sweden, Jens Tornquist, Logistic & Commercial Excellence Director, and Kim Stouten, Head of Logistics E&A.[1][2] Employees took part in team-building activities, concluded with the collective construction of a puzzle intended to be placed in the premises of SKF Logistics Italy.[1][2] Enzo Castellano, Head of Logistics Italy, stated: "We are very proud of the milestone we have just reached: 50 years of high-profile industrial history, always seeking continuous improvement and sustained by collaboration among the people who have worked in these premises, generation after generation. Now the challenge is to keep growing in a very complex market, offering ever-new logistics solutions designed to best meet each customer's needs."[1][2]
