2026 Commemoration of the Dead in Turin's cemeteries

For the Commemoration of the Dead, from 24 October to 2 November 2026 Turin's six cemeteries observe extended opening hours, from 8:30am to 5:30pm, the same hours applied to the offices of the Monumentale and Parco cemeteries. From 3 November winter hours return, with closing at 4:30pm. For the whole period private cars are not allowed in, except vehicles with a European disability permit, during permitted hours [1].

Transport and visitor assistance

Afc, the municipal company that manages the cemeteries, provides free low-floor buses and shuttles at the Monumentale and Parco cemeteries. Gtt (Turin's public transport company) strengthens external bus lines and suspends line 102 inside the Parco cemetery on 24, 25 and 31 October and on 1 and 2 November [1].

Visitors are welcomed by 92 volunteers from the "In visita ai nostri cari" (Visiting our loved ones) project, identifiable by blue or yellow vests and equipped with tablets and maps. 33.7% are aged between 18 and 30 and take part in the "Giovani per Torino" (Young people for Turin) project; the others belong to the Civici Senior group. Volunteers from the National Association of Carabinieri, Capitan Ultimo and alpine troops associations are also present. The cemeteries have 38 wheelchairs and 13 totems for looking up graves available, two of which are accessible to wheelchair users. On the busiest days, an elevator attendant is present at the main cemeteries, while Smat water points at the Monumentale and Parco cemeteries distribute water [1].

Celebrations and cultural initiatives

The "Appuntamenti con il ricordo" (Appointments with remembrance) programme offers concerts with the La Gerla choir, the Taurus Brass and violinist Silvia Giovanna Cavallotto. On Sunday 1 November at 3:30pm Cardinal Roberto Repole celebrates mass at the Parco cemetery, under the Grande Croce (Great Cross), at the entrance on via Bertani 80. On Monday 2 November the City's official ceremony at the Monumentale cemetery begins at 9:15am from the main entrance, with a procession of authorities and veterans' associations paying tribute to the cemetery's monuments and memorial stones; at 3:30pm a further mass is held with Cardinal Repole. The Shrine to the fallen of the Great War at the Gran Madre can also be visited on 2 and 4 November, from 10am to midday and from 3pm to 5pm [1].

Activities at the Monumentale

In the first nine months of 2026, 146 guided tours were held at the Monumentale cemetery, compared with 91 for the whole of 2025, with 28 cultural events compared with 16 the previous year and more than 4,000 visits linked to the initiatives. The president of Afc Torino, Andrea Araldi, links these figures to the international Asce conference hosted in Turin in June with representatives of Europe's main historic cemeteries [1]. Work on the roads and pavements of the Parco cemetery is nearing completion; at the Monumentale, work continues on burial-niche complexes 34 and 35, where lifts will be installed, and on burial-niche complex 28 at the Parco cemetery; the renovation of the Monumentale's water system has also been completed [1].
