18th edition of Matti per il calcio

The 18th edition of Matti per il calcio, a national event organized by Uisp, was held in San Benedetto del Tronto at the Giulio Merlini municipal stadium, bringing together around 250 people over three days of matches, emotions and social gathering. The event is dedicated to teams made up of people with mental health difficulties, supported by educators and operators. The tournament was won by the Turin team InGenio Calcio, ahead of Farsi Prossimo Milano and Insieme per Sport Genova [1][2].

The tournament

Eleven teams from all over Italy took part in the event, for a total of 30 seven-a-side football matches played on a single pitch [1]. InGenio Calcio, from Turin, after finishing third the previous year, won every match in its group, reaching the final triangular round together with Farsi Prossimo from Milan and Insieme per Sport from Genoa [1][2].

The final victory

In the final triangular round, InGenio Calcio beat Insieme per Sport Genova on penalties, thanks to two penalties saved by the Turin team's goalkeeper, before defeating Farsi Prossimo Milano 3-0, a result that secured the tournament win [1][2]. On the podium, second place went to Farsi Prossimo Milano and third to Insieme per Sport Genova. The other Piedmontese team in the competition, Asd Terzo Tempo, finished sixth [1][2].

Next event

In mid-October, Matti per il calcio will return to Piedmont with a six-team tournament, organized by Uisp [1][2].
