The 0-6 Children's Centre (Polo dell'Infanzia) on via Verolengo is an educational facility located in Turin's Madonna di Campagna district, in the Spina 3 area. The building brings together a nursery, a preschool and family support services under one roof, with the aim of ensuring educational continuity from birth to age six [1][2].

Construction and inauguration

The centre was built with an investment of 3.3 million euros funded by the Pnrr, under Mission 4 dedicated to education and research, and has already been in operation since the start of the school year. The official inauguration was held on 29 October 2026, attended by Turin mayor Stefano Lo Russo, education councillor Carlotta Salerno, the chair of District 5 Alfredo Correnti, the head of General and Administrative Services of the Frassati school group Chiara Donatiello, and the director of the City of Turin's Education Services Claudio Sciaraffa [1][2].

Facility and spaces

The building is organised around a central "agora", a multi-purpose space designed as a place for meeting and sharing. The west wing houses two teaching units for children aged one to two, while the east wing has three units for the three-to-six age group. The areas for children connect directly to outdoor spaces and have sheltered, shaded courtyards overlooking a landscaped green area [2].

Inclusion and sustainability

The educational project includes the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), a tool that expands children's ability to express themselves and take part, supporting interaction for those who have difficulty with verbal communication, as highlighted by councillor Carlotta Salerno [1][2]. The building meets nZEB (Nearly Zero Energy Building) standards for high-energy-performance buildings able to cover a significant share of their needs from renewable sources. Construction also complied with the Minimum Environmental Criteria (CAM) and the "Do No Significant Harm" (DNSH) principle required for projects funded under the Pnrr [2]. Luca Angelone, head of the Frassati school group, suggested that the centre could become a point of reference not only for school activities but also for families and the local area [2].
