Strike and march by Turin students against school funding cuts (16 October 2026)
Thousands of Turin students go on strike and march towards Piazza XVIII Dicembre against cuts to school funding and rearmament policies.
Access points in front of Porta Susa station are closed for security reasons; a carabiniere is injured by a thrown stone.
Cardboard tank set on fire and clashes in Piazza Castello
At the head of the march, some hooded protesters set fire to a cardboard model of a tank, to applause from the students, as a symbolic gesture against military spending; the march also chants against General Roberto Vannacci and a No Tav flag is waved.
Having reached Piazza Castello, a group of several hundred hooded protesters throws stones, bottles and flares at police, who respond with water cannon and some tear gas.
