Spaghetti Bridge Challenge 2026 at the Politecnico di Torino
On 15 October 2026, in the Aula Magna of the Politecnico di Torino, the Spaghetti Bridge Challenge takes place, a structural engineering competition in which participants build bridges using only raw spaghetti and epoxy or hot glue. The event is organized by Team Spaghetti Bridge, a student group founded in 2022 made up of fifteen members from different departments of the university, with a strong international component.
The competition is open to students from any university, who may take part individually or in teams of up to three. The goal is to design a bridge able to bear the greatest possible load relative to its own weight: the structures must span one metre, meet precise size constraints and weigh no more than one kilogram. The Team has made a construction manual available with information and tips for participants.
The day opens at 2pm in the lobby of the Sala Emma Strada with the display of the models and the checking of size and weight limits, culminating in the public load test in the Aula Magna, where the bridges are subjected, by means of a purpose-built frame, to a gradually increasing load.
