Protests against the gazebos in Barriera di Milano (19 September 2026)

On 19 September 2026, in Turin's Barriera di Milano district, two information stands run by right-wing political groups were targeted by protesters. The first involved a Fratelli d'Italia stand in piazza Respighi, the second a Futuro Nazionale gazebo in piazza Bottesini.

The Fratelli d'Italia stand in piazza Respighi

On the morning of 19 September, piazza Respighi hosted an information stand organised by Fratelli d'Italia on urban security and neighbourhood policing. About ten activists, reportedly linked to Turin's social centres, approached the stand chanting slogans and confronting the organisers, attempting to disrupt the event [1][2]. Police officers already present in the area stepped in between the two sides, allowing the FdI activists to continue handing out leaflets [1]. One of the protesters said: «We are protesting against you because you are fascists, you shouldn't be here. This is the most inclusive and multi-ethnic neighbourhood in Turin» [1].

Raffaele Marascio, a Fratelli d'Italia councillor in Circoscrizione 4, described the episode as an anti-democratic attempt to obstruct an authorised stand, accusing the social centres of treating the neighbourhoods as «no-go zones under their control» with the backing of the city's left [1][2][3]. Marascio also spoke of a «problem of political access» for the right in Turin, announcing his party's intention to keep up its presence in the area [1].

The attack on the Futuro Nazionale gazebo in piazza Bottesini

On the same day, also in Barriera di Milano, the Futuro Nazionale gazebo in piazza Bottesini was targeted; the party was collecting signatures against a mosque planned for the following year in corso Novara. The activists' table was overturned amid insults, prompting the intervention of the carabinieri [3].

Deborah Lamberti, a Futuro Nazionale councillor in Circoscrizione 6, said she was surrounded and threatened after noticing that a girl had written insults on the signature sheet instead of signing it [3]. Giampiero Aimo, a representative of the 718 Torino nord committee, commented that the protesters had no arguments and systematically resorted to accusations of «fascism» [3]. Two days earlier, Roberto Vannacci had also spoken about the mosque project during a visit to Turin, announcing Futuro Nazionale's intention to keep opposing the project after an appeal had been declared inadmissible [3].
