Protest against the Fratelli d'Italia stall in Barriera di Milano
On 19 September 2026, in the Barriera di Milano district of Turin, an information stall organized by Fratelli d'Italia in Piazza Respighi was the target of a protest by activists linked to the city's social centres. The episode was part of a tense morning that also involved a stall set up by the Futuro Nazionale movement in the nearby Piazza Bottesini.[1][2][3]
The stall and the protest
The Fratelli d'Italia stall had been set up to discuss urban safety and neighbourhood policing issues with residents. A group of around ten people, described by the organizers as linked to Turin's social-centre scene, approached the stand chanting and directing protests at the activists present, attempting to block the initiative.[1][2]
One of the protesters, interviewed at the scene, said: "We are protesting against you because you are fascists, you shouldn't be here. This is the most inclusive and multi-ethnic neighbourhood in Turin."[1]
The intervention of the police
Officers already present in the area for surveillance duties stepped in to position themselves between the two groups, allowing Fratelli d'Italia activists to continue distributing leaflets and collecting reports from residents.[1][2]
Reactions
Raffaele Marascio, a Fratelli d'Italia councillor in Circoscrizione 4, commented on the episode, describing the attempt to obstruct the stall as "an anti-democratic act" and accusing the social centres of treating neighbourhoods as "no-go zones under their control, often with the protection of the city's left." Marascio also spoke of a "problem of political freedom of action for the right" in Turin, announcing the party's intention to maintain its presence in the area.[1][2][3]
The parallel episode involving Futuro Nazionale
On the same day, also in Barriera di Milano, a stall set up by the Futuro Nazionale movement in Piazza Bottesini, to collect signatures against the construction of a mosque on Corso Novara planned for the following year, was stormed: the activists' table was overturned and insults were exchanged, making the intervention of the carabinieri necessary.[3]
Deborah Lamberti, a Futuro Nazionale councillor in Circoscrizione 6, said she was surrounded and threatened after noticing that someone had written insults on a sheet intended for collecting signatures. Giampiero Aimo, a representative of the 718 Torino Nord committee, commented on the episode, speaking of "indoctrination" among the young protesters.
