New oncological dermatosurgery unit at San Luigi Gonzaga in Orbassano
News of

San Luigi Gonzaga Hospital in Orbassano has opened a new oncological dermatosurgery unit, headed by Massimo Rizzo, which combines diagnosis and surgical treatment of skin cancers in a single visit. [1][2] The unit has a cross-hospital remit and aims to become a reference point for patients from across Piedmont; from January a consultant from San Lazzaro hospital is expected to join, with a schedule dedicated to oncological dermatosurgery consultations for both inpatients and outpatients. [4] It also offers skin biopsies for patients followed by the Rheumatology department and includes a wound-care branch, dedicated to difficult wounds and chronic lesions, headed by Giuliana Bruno; the team also includes Cristiano Parise, who holds a master's degree in dermatosurgery. [4] The new unit deals in particular with the oncological surgery of melanomas, epitheliomas and other suspected or confirmed skin lesions, including sentinel lymph node biopsy for melanoma staging. [4] "Investing in dermatosurgery means addressing one of the most critical points in the dermatological pathway, the passage from diagnosis to treatment," says San Luigi Gonzaga's general director, Davide Minniti. [3] The unit, operating since 6 November 2026, is due to open a second outpatient clinic in December dedicated to cases with urgent (U) and short (B) priority, referred by a family doctor or already assessed by a dermatologist.
