Extension of Gtt's Safe Tram and Safe Bus Service to Daytime Hours

Starting in the last weeks of September 2026, with intensification planned for October, Gruppo Trasporti Torinese (Gtt) is extending the «Safe Tram» and «Safe Bus» projects, which pair specialized security operators with customer assistants on board vehicles and at stops, to daytime hours. The model was launched in July 2025 on tram line 4 alone and later extended to lines 2 and 11; until now it had operated only in the evening slot, from 5:45 pm to 11:45 pm, the time band that Gtt identifies as the most sensitive to the issues reported by passengers.

Between January and August 2026, the «Safe» initiative led to checks on more than 76,000 passengers across roughly 3,600 vehicles. The service works alongside routine inspections carried out with law enforcement, such as the «Linea sicura» project: in a recent operation in the San Donato neighborhood, at the Bernini metro stop and the Treviso stop on Via Livorno, a total of 239 passengers were checked, resulting in 40 fines and one arrest for drug possession with intent to sell. «Safety on public transport is built first and foremost through presence,» Gtt states.
