The Pinocchio Puppet from Comencini's TV Series
The wooden puppet used in the Rai television series «Le avventure di Pinocchio», directed by Luigi Comencini and broadcast in five episodes in April 1972 on Programma Nazionale, is the only surviving example among those used during filming: the others were lost in the course of production. The cast included Nino Manfredi as Geppetto, the actor Andrea Balestri as Pinocchio, as well as Vittorio De Sica, Gina Lollobrigida, Franco Franchi and Ciccio Ingrassia. Held by the Fondazione San Paolo Film, the puppet was exhibited from 17 to 21 September 2026 at the Libreria San Paolo on Via della Consolata in Turin, the first stop on a tour that took it to several Italian cities as part of the initiatives marking the two hundredth anniversary of the birth of Carlo Collodi.
After Turin, the tour takes the puppet, among other cities, to Rome, Florence and Catania. [3]
