Murder of a suspected burglar in Baldissero d'Alba (September 2026)

On the night between Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September 2026, at around 2 a.m., in Baldissero d'Alba, in the province of Cuneo, a man surprises a group of people in the courtyard of his home, a farmhouse on Via Roma undergoing renovation, and fires several gunshots into the darkness in the direction of the intruders. [1][2] One of them, Gjovalin Lazri, a 36-year-old Albanian citizen living in Turin, is hit and dies on the spot; it is the owner himself, Roberto Mollo, a 35-year-old truck driver, who raises the alarm immediately after the shooting. [1][2][3] Mollo is placed under investigation for murder by the Asti public prosecutor's office, which assigns the inquiry to deputy prosecutor Laura Deodato. [3]

On 29 September 2026 a ballistic examination begins at the farmhouse, carried out with dummy bullets and laser pointers to reconstruct the trajectories; besides the deputy prosecutor, the inspection is attended by prosecution consultant Stefano Conti, Mollo's lawyer Piermario Morra with consultant Ruggero Pettinelli, and the Lazri family's lawyer Roberta Sisimbro with consultant Maurizio Cusimano. [3][4] The examination, which lasted about five hours, establishes that Mollo fired at least twelve shots with a semi-automatic Steyr 9x21 pistol from a distance of between ten and thirty metres, and that the fatal shot, which passed through the victim's neck from left to right as he was trying to flee towards a hedge, was fired from about fifteen metres away. [4] In the courtyard the carabinieri had recovered three flashlights abandoned by the group of intruders, made up of three or four people; Lazri, at the time, was wearing gloves, a motorcycle balaclava and a dark jacket, and was carrying a large screwdriver. [4] The investigation is not considered concluded: a second night-time inspection, without gunfire, is planned to assess visibility and light conditions under the same weather and lunar conditions as on the night of the events.
