Meeting Between Australia's Ambassador and Piedmontese Businesses
On 18 September 2026, Confindustria Piemonte is organizing in Turin an institutional meeting between the Australian Ambassador to Italy, Julianne Cowley, and the region's industrial and economic system, in view of the free trade agreement between the European Union and Australia, concluded after eight years of negotiations and expected to enter into force in the coming months. "The agreement means lower costs, more certainty, stronger protection for Italian excellence," states Cowley, also pointing to the Security and Defence Partnership signed between the parties and Australia's accession to the Horizon Europe programme.
In 2025, trade between Piedmont and Australia reached 375 million euros, with a positive balance for Piedmont of about 230 million: the region ranks fourth among Italian regions by value of exports to the country, with 302 million euros, driven by food, beverages and tobacco (41.6% of the total), machinery (20.1%) and transport equipment (9%); imports from Australia, totalling 72 million, are 83.9% agriculture, forestry and fishery products. "This meeting aims to create a network between the production systems and foster new trade and investment opportunities," says the president of Confindustria Piemonte, Andrea Amalberto.
