Arrest for Attempted Extortion in Barriera di Milano
In Turin, in the Barriera di Milano district, a 27-year-old man was arrested by the State Police on charges of attempted extortion and reported for handling stolen goods. The man had demanded 100 euros from a young woman in exchange for returning her father's mobile phone, which had been stolen the day before.[1][2]
The facts
The case began when the young woman went to the police after being contacted by individuals in possession of her father's stolen phone, who were demanding 100 euros for its return. Officers from the Barriera Milano police station then organized a controlled meeting to identify whoever would show up to hand over the phone.[1][2]
The police operation
Police officers set up a stakeout in the area agreed upon for the exchange, monitoring and surrounding the location. At the time of the meeting, a man approached the young woman, showed her the phone and waited for the requested sum: he was then stopped by the officers, who prevented him from fleeing. The smartphone was recovered and returned to its rightful owner.[1][2]
Outcome
At the conclusion of the investigation, by order of the judicial authority, the 27-year-old was taken to the Lorusso e Cotugno remand prison in Turin.[1][2]
